Master at Arms

Rank Insignia for the Master at Arms

The term has been used in the Royal Navy since the time of King Charles I. Originally the Master-at-Arms (AKA:Master of Arms) was a petty officer who looked after personal arms such as swords and firearms, ensuring they were kept in good order and their ammunition was prepared and ready for use in combat. He also instructed other members of the crew in the use of arms. He later also became responsible for discipline.

The Ship's Corporals assisted the Master-at-Arms with his duties. In the Colorado Rogues this is a Ship Officer Rank.

Sergeant at Arms

The formal role of a Sergeant-At-Arms in modern legislative bodies is to keep order during meetings, and, if necessary, forcibly remove any members who are overly rowdy or disruptive. In origin the "Serjeants-at-Arms" were indeed a body of armed men who waited on the person of the English monarch. (from Wikipedia)

Boarding Party

Naval boarding is to come up against, or alongside, an enemy ship to attack by placing men aboard the enemy ship. The goal of boarding is to capture, or destroy, the enemy vessel. Larger ships carried specially trained and equipped sailors, or marines, as boarders. (from Wikipedia)
