Biography
Mistress Blade is the daughter of a wealthy English Lord, and his wife a Scottish Clan Chief, born to the name of Missy. Both of her parents had been married before and each had children from their previous marriages, her father though had no sons with which to carry on the family name and the family business. Her father had hoped that his step son Joseph would fill the shoes of his step father but alas her father soon realized that Joseph his step son was not smart enough to handle the family business and so after a couple of years of lessons he was allowed his freedom to fend for himself. Joseph, who was quite the rapscallion had fooled his step father into believing that he was a fool and unable to learn about business, when in fact he had learned much but did not want to be cooped up inside a dreary building all day. Upon receiving his freedom from his business lessons he soon joined a ship and learned about the life of the sea. He loved the sea and had very little patience or thought for his step father’s business.
As Missy’s father had just three daughters and with no son to carry on the family name or the family business he decided that his youngest daughter, Missy, must be educated in the ways of the business world, a grueling task for one so young and for a female at that. It was almost unheard of for a young girl to learn business during this time period and her tasks would be extra hard as she would have to be twice as educated and twice as cunning as any boy who would be receiving the same education.
At a very young age the tutelage of Missy, not only in the ways of being a lady but also in the ways of the business world and the family business began. The days were long and very boring learning the use of numbers, learning to be a proper lady, writing and all of the other details her father thought would be important for Missy to learn. Missy envied her siblings, her half sisters their lives of luxury and raising their children, she especially envied half brother Joseph, for he had much freedom and told Missy stories of his days and the adventures he had out at sea. Missy longed for the freedom and openness of the sea and spent many hours dreaming of what it would be like to have the freedom of being a sailor. Missy found that her heart was always pulled to the sea, a sea which she had only seen a few times, but it called to her as a mother calls to a wayward child.
Joseph soon found that the life and the ways of a pirate were much more profitable than that of just a sailor. And soon he made his way through life as a captain of his own pirate ship or rather as a privateer. One day shortly before her 11th birthday Joseph came home to visit his and Missy’s mother. While there he told his young adoring sister many fascinating stories about his life as a pirate. When it was time for Joseph to leave Missy decided that she wanted to go with him but he and her father refused. She must stay and make her father proud as she runs the family business, the only thing was she never wanted to do this she never wanted to be a proper lady who also ran a very successful business.
Missy decided she was going to go anyways. During the night Missy spent time cutting her hair very short like that of a boy and then found old clothes that were her half brother’s when he was younger. Very early the next morning before the household awoke Missy packed her bag and slipped through the dark down to the sea. There she snuck aboard her half brother’s ship, which was to set sail right a dawn. Little did she know that this was a day that would change her life forever.
The ship was at sea for entire day before Missy was discovered aboard ship and then they still did not know that she was a girl or that she was the captain’s little sister. It was a few more days before she was seen by her half brother and soon recognized for who she really was. Her half brother was livid with her but also secretly proud that she had decided for herself that a life behind a desk counting numbers was not a life for her.
A couple of weeks at sea passed calmly and the pattern of the days soon became routine and somewhat boring. Until there was a strange ship on the horizon and all of the crew became very agitated and very excited. As the strange ship came closer the sea soon rang out with the sounds of a terrific battle, cannons boomed, shots were fired and there was death every where. In the end the crew of her brother’s ship lost there lives in the battle and so her brother decided to ram the other ship with his because “if he could not have this ship then no one would and he would take them down in the process”. As the ships crashed into each other there was a great explosion. Missy awoke in the water once in the middle of the night and screamed and screamed for her brother but there was no other sound and no sign of the ships just a sea littered with floating rubble. She kept screaming for her brother but could not find him amidst the carnage of the battle. There was one last explosion, and all went dark. When she awoke she found herself upon a piece of driftwood, and lying next to her was a young boy not much older then she, as she did not recognize him she realized he must have been on the other ship. Should she kill him she wondered? But she knew she could not for he had done nothing to her so surly she could not kill him.
As she sat drifting at sea she looked around and knew that their options were slim. They had to survive until they could get to shore or a ship came across them. She began to take mental notes of the objects drifting around them. Her father had taught her to have a strength, and organization in the middle of a crisis and to keep her head about her, so she began searching for items that would be of use to them until they were out of this situation. In those moments she felt much older then her 11 years and yet at the same time much younger. She realized now that she was probably the only survivor of her half brother’s ship and she was so sad for the loss of her adored half brother Joseph.
The boy next to her soon awoke and smiled with very wise calm eyes for a boy his age and said. "I am glad to see you are okay. My name is David." Together they gathered more stuff to keep them safe and strapped it to their growing raft, they were especially lucky that some of the rum and water barrels were not broken in the many explosions. If they were careful they just might make it.
As they drifted on the seas for three long days David and Missy began to get to know each other and soon developed a friendship that would last a life time, on the third day a strange ship approached. It was unlike any other ship they had seen before. The ship was known as the Shadow Dragon a ship from the far eastern seas. The two children were taken aboard the Shadow Dragon, and in time they were adopted by the Captain. Missy always feared that if anyone knew her true name that she would be sent back home and she could not face telling her parents what had happened to her half brother. She decided it was best to remain silent as to her identity. It would remain her secret until she could figure out what to do.
Missy became known as Little Blade in Japanese, because of her sharp mind, cutting wit, and also her skill with a blade for the captain made sure that both children were proficient in the martial arts and with all weapons and every manner of manning a ship that he could think of. Many years passed and many things were learned and mastered. After a fierce battle with another ship and that ship captured it was decided that David had earned the right to become captain of his own ship. While Little Blade at this time decided that it was time to return home now that she was an adult and set things right with her parents. And so their paths separated for the first time in many years. Little Blade knew she was doing the right thing by going home but she still felt as if she had lost a part of herself when she left David behind to captain his own ship.
She was extremely happy and surprised for she arrived home expecting to impart sad news but instead it was to find when she arrived home that her parents had thought she was the one who was dead not her half brother as he had survived after all and had made it home to let them know of her supposed demise many, many years ago. Soon she decide it was time to leave home again though this time it was not in the dark of night and not with out saying a proper good bye.
Missy had ended up taking a position aboard The Rising, a ship Captained by a man named Full Moon. And so Missy set sail with Captain Moon and his crew aboard the rising as they headed to the new world and an area know as the Caribbean.
