Biography

I grew up in Wales and when I was a young girl I spent a lot of time with my uncle. He would take me out on his boat a lot and especially when he went fishing with his friend Robert Morgan. Robert and my uncle were good friends and spent many an afternoon whiling away the hours talking and fishing. It was during one of these trips that I met the son of my uncle’s friend his name was David Morgan. David and I became fast friends and I looked forward to the visits made by Robert and his son to my uncle’s boat. That was until the last time Robert visited my uncle’s boat to say he would be coming no more. It seemed that on Robert’s last business trip the boat aboard which he and David were traveling was attacked and David was lost. I was so sad to have lost my friend of whom I had grown so fond.

Not all of my time aboard my uncle’s boat was spent being just a visitor. My uncle decided that if I was to be aboard ship that I would have to be of some use to him. So my first lessons were to learn the parts of the ship such as which side of the ship was port and which was aft because when he would shout directions to me I sometimes went to the wrong side and man my uncle would get mad! He would then bellow at me even louder. So learning this information was in self defense rather than just being of use to my uncle.

I also learned how to read maps and travel by the use of the stars. My uncle was really surprised at how fast I learned to use the sexton to chart trips via the stars and soon started to call me Stargazer because he said that was where my head always seemed to be in the stars and the maps I had so begun to love. What my uncle did not realize was that I was not just looking to the stars for a route of safe passage on our trips but also I was dreaming of being able to travel the world under those stars.

A few years passed sense David was lost and our friendship gone when my uncle was taken with small pox and soon died. Now I had not only lost the only true childhood friend I had ever had but I had also lost my beloved uncle. To distract me from my loss my mother decided it was time for me to learn something new that did not necessarily involve the sea. She decided that I should learn her craft of jewelry making. It was not something I wanted to do but in time learning these skills did indeed seem to patch the open wound in my heart.

Though my learning my mother’s jewelry making craft helped some I still found myself drawn to the sea. Everyday I would secretly venture down to the sea whether it was in town at the docks or down in the cove near our home. It was during one these secret trips, when I was eleven years old that my life truly changed from what I knew. I was in the cove and out in the open before I realized that I was not the only person on the beach that day.

Before I knew it I was among a bunch of scruffy looking men talking about the best way to approach the village. I soon realized that these were pirates and were here to attack our village, I tried to run but was quickly caught by the pirates and taken aboard their ship. And now I knew why my mother warned me to stay close to home and not to wander but do kids ever really listen?

I was so glad to be at sea again that it was a few days before I realized that I was a slave and that I would be sold to the highest bidder when we reached the next port. It seemed like we sailed for days and days and of course that was what we did as we traveled to a part of the world I had only ever heard about but never dreamed I would be there, especially as a slave for sale. When we reached port we were taken ashore to get cleaned up and for the first time in weeks the chains were removed. I knew this would be my only chance to escape if I could just find a way. The way came when I was in the bath house, sitting on a stool was an oil lamp and it took just a bit of effort to knock the lamp over and set the curtains in the room on fire. The place soon filled with smoke and I was able to slip away in the confusion. Those first days were lonely and hard until I came across a small group of escaped slaves and joined their group. Life was tough but with some work and smarts I soon had supplies to make jewelry that I sold in the market place to get money for food. As the years pasted I was making more and more jewelry and soon had an actual stand in the market place to sell my wares and that of others from the group I had once been a part of.

One afternoon in the market place two figures came towards me one looked familiar and yet I knew it could not be him while woman with him carried herself with such confidence and poise. As they stopped at my stand I over heard their conversation and heard the woman call the man Captain Morgan. I wondered could this be the boy I knew as David Morgan who was supposed to have died many years ago. It was bold of me but I quickly asked the gentleman if he indeed was the son of Robert Morgan from Wales? He said he was and as he looked at me a little more thoroughly recognition spread across his face.

“Stargazer, is that you?” I just shook my head for fear if I spoke he would disappear. “What in the world are you doing here?” Soon my story just spilled out and I found myself reunited with my childhood friend.

It was after this that I was introduced to the woman at David’s side. I learned this woman to be Mistress Blade a woman who became David’s fast friend after he was separated from his father at sea. Mistress Blade is First Mate of The Crimson Storm she was quite skilled in weaponry and self defense. While my friend David is now Captain D. Morgan of The Crimson Storm and they were in port after their last voyage to find crew replacements for those lost after their last fierce battle. One of positions aboard the ship that needed to be filled was navigator and Captain Morgan remembered that my love for maps and charts and that my skills were well on their way to a proficient level when we last met. He and Mistress Blade questioned me at length to test my knowledge and skills and eventually Captain Morgan offered me a chance to use my skills once again as the navigator on board The Crimson Storm. For many years I was alone but now for the past few years I have found a home and a place to belong as Stargazer Navigator of The Crimson Storm.
