Colorado Rogues Have New Commodore

In 2009, Commodore Amon announced that, after 8 years of service as the Colorado Rogues’ fearless leader, he wished to step down from his postion to focus on the Captaincy of his ship, The Sun God.

Several brave and mighty Captains in the Fleet stepped up to run for the newly-available Commodore position, and an election was held on New Year’s Eve, 2009, with the results being announced at midnight.

We extend our gratitude and respect to Captain Amon for his years of service and his deeply valued leadership, as he pursues new mayem with the crew of The Sun God.

Congratulations and a most hearty welcome to Commodore Traveler Hawk.  As she takes the helm, we look forward to following her on new journies across these adventurous seas!

2008 Pie-in-the-Face

2008 Pie-in-the-Face

Well, it finally happened!  After being postponed twice due to unforeseen difficulties, we finally got the Madam creamy!

Madam Devyne sports a creamy new look!

The auction for Pie-in-the-Face was held November 22, 2008 at our wonderful Harbourmaster’s house.  The turnout was larger than expected, despite the confusion of it being moved so often.

Pie-in-the-Face is one of our largest yearly fund raisers.  We collect money all through the Faire season, and the top five Rogues are scheduled to get a pie in their face.  Madam Devyne, Portmaster Vindorein, and Commodore Amon were auctioned off out of the top five.  Unfortunately, First Mate Stalkie McGroper and Quartermaster Fin McEwok of the Sun God, also in the top five, were not in attendance.  Due to their absence, Captain Ohm and First Mate Merlot were auctioned off, and have promised revenge.  Look out, Sun God!

Captain Ohm takes a hit for an absent Sun God member.

Merlot received the highest bid as several people banded together to get a piece of the action.  Unsurprisingly, quite a few people also paid for the opportunity to lick the whipped cream off the participants.  Also unsurprisingly, Madam Devyne collected the most money for that.

Merlot laughs through her pie-induced trauma.

I would like to thank Fidget McFeely for collecting money during Faire, and Step ‘n’ Fetch Baby Girl for helping run the auction.  You both did a great job.  We could not have done this without you.

Sir Vindorien prepares himself while the crowd laughs..er…cheers him on.

A group of Rogues looks on, grateful to be pie-free.

Baby Blankets from the Crimson Storm!

On Saturday, November 29, 2008, the crew of the Crimson Storm completed their year-long project of making baby blankets to donate to charity.  They delivered 48 handmade baby blankets, 10 handmade flannel receiving blankets, 30 handmade shoulder burp cloths, and 15 handmade bibs to the St. Joan of Arc Church in Arvada.  The St Joan of Arc Church will be distributing the blankets and other items to various groups that help unwed mothers who have decided to keep their babies.

Each year, the St. Joan of Arc Church collects many donations to create lovely gift baskets for young teen mothers, single mothers, women in crisis, homeless shelters, and families in need. The Crimson Storm’s blankets were received with great enthusiasm and will be placed where they will fill the greatest need.

The Crimson Storm would like to thank the members of its crew who took their time and their own money to make all of the wonderful blankets.  They turned out so beautifully!  We truly have some very creative members on our crew.  A Great big Thank You those members who worked so hard - you know who you are, you are truly wonderful giving people, Thank You!

Pirates Invade 16th Street Mall!

Pirates Invade 16th Street Mall!

There is ne’er a more intense look than when a pirate is deep in thought about finding hidden treasure. Such was the case on October 18th, as over 30 garbed members of the Colorado Rogues boarded the 16th St. Mall for their annual Treasure Hunt.

Now in its third year, the Treasure Hunt has become a much anticipated event among the Rogues. Members from each ship spent the very beautiful and sunny Fall day deciphering map pieces, answering questions on pirate history, rearranging letters and collecting booty. The game was a frenzied rush to each Step-n-Fetch-manned post, a quick brainstorming session to decode their clue, then a mad dash to the next location.

And, of course, answering questions to passers-by. It’s not every day you see pirates walking the streets. Those curious and daring enough approached with inquiries as to what group participants were a part of, and even how to join.

This year, new twists included a scavenger hunt and answering a history question in order to receive the next clue. Partly due to the rising cost of gas, Ballistikk (the game’s founder) moved locations to the 16th Street Mall, including stops like the Tattered Cover, Celtic Tavern and Mermaid’s Bakery, making walking the desired mode of transport.

When the day was done, all participants arrived at Café Netherworld with their booty and completed maps for inspection by The Harbour.  The final results were:

1st place - The Sun God
2nd place – The Rising, The Koumori, The Crimson Storm
3rd place - The House
4th place - The Raging St. Mae
5th place - The Lady Sinister
